Glenmorangie Spios 46% ABV

Glenmorangie Spios 46% ABV

Private Edition 9 […]

Glenmorangie has just presented the ninth release of Private Edition. It just happens that I have a beautifully presented small bottle of this drink together with a tasting glass, all properly packed in a nice box. I must admit that Glenmorangie is bringing presenting samples on a new level. This time we also have NAS, traditional 46% ABV, unchillfiltered and fully matured in the barrels after Rye Whiskey, which is now regaining recognition among consumers. I like the last editions of the series - Milsean and Bacalta. I wonder how it will be this time. [caption id=attachment_7688 align=alignnone width=1920] Glenmorangie Spios 46% ABV[/caption] N: in the bottle quite sweet, honey-vanilla, ice cream, caramel, in the glass at the very beginning similar, in the cold wind, when I tried it for the first time I discovered a large wave of citrus with orange and lemon at the fore, then already at peace at home also peach, litchi, dry grass and straw, after some time I sensed marzipan, cinnamon and meringue, in the distance slight dose of spirit with white pepper, sometimes also perfumes; T: here it is more wild with tongue tingling, some bitterness, ginger, white pepper, warming up, dry, after getting used to it I have grapefruit and orange peel, water somewhat softens it, but you can also quickly overdo and dilute this malt; F: medium long with bitterness some traces of grapefruit and orange. Score: 80. Glenmorangie Spios or spice in free translation is probably a good name for it, similar to the other expressions in the series, all the names are pretty well reflected to the character of whisky. The smell is very interesting, the taste in my opinion is too much Spios, rather not in my favorite style, a little wild and spicy, although you will surely find amateurs for such a malt. Merry Christmas

Previous Ardmore on the blog was official Traditional Cask NAS, 46% ABV, that I liked, by its way I also wrote a few words about this distillery. Before that I had here Ardmore 1992/2013 bottled for The Auld Alliance Singapore, just 218 bottles, at 51,3% ABV. Today I present you Ardmore from independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail. It was distilled in 1991 and bottled 2007, we have 16 years of maturation. The power is relatively low - 43% ABV. [caption id=attachment_7620...

    Whisky Festival 2015 Exclusive

I have tried single malts matured in many different barrels, after Bourbon of course, sherry, port, madeira, other wines and beer too. I did not drink whisky aged in sparkling wine casks. So its time for a new sensations or maybe it will not make much difference? Interesting ... During a visit to a distillery on the Isle of Jura, Jura Tastival hit my eyes, specially released for the festival in 2015, distilled in 1997 and bottled with 52% ABV. Above that natural color and non-chill filtered....

    NAS from Isle of Skye

From the Isle of Skye we had here Talisker 57 North, earlier classic 10 years old, also I posted a report from the visit to the distillery. For today, I prepared Talisker Skye, another NAS (no age statement), fortunately bottled at 45.8% ABV. N: still in the bottle, somewhat peat with smoked fish - this is a good prediction; you have to fill a glass - first alcoholic breeze, which clears quickly as breeze should, then a bit sweet - biscuits maybe, cooked apples, furthermore peat accents,...

    Independent Tomatin

On the blog Tomatin has not yet arrived, I have to change it. So I invite you to tasting impressions the Tomatin 1996/2013, 46% ABV, Connoisseurs Choice, Gordon & MacPhail. As with other releases of this series we have natural color and unchillfiltered. C: white wine, N: first of all light and sweet, vanilla, butter cookies, coconut cookies, white chocolate, caramel, not too intense and quite unilateral, after some time I still have floral notes, maybe an apricot, then banana and...

    Independent Dalmore

Four years ago on the blog I posted an entry about Dalmore 12 years old (how this time flies), I invite you to that entry as a prelude to todays colleague, which is Dalmore from an independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice series, vintage 1999, bottled in 2013 with 46% ABV. Typically for the release we have natural color and unchillfiltered. On this occasion, I have to mention Brand Ambassador Richard Paterson, who seems to be celebrating 50th anniversary in the whisky...

    Malmsey Madeira Casks Finish

A few days ago, Glenmorangie Bacalta had its premiere. This is the eighth edition of the series of Private Collection. This time we have a classic maturation in Bourbon barrels and then finish in Malmsey Madeira wine casks. Traditionally, the whisky is bottled at 46% and unchillfiltered. It just happens that I have such a bottle, so there is nothing else to open it and look inside. [caption id=attachment_7098 align=alignnone width=1920] Glenmorangie Bacalta[/caption] N: cooked...

    Młody Sherry Monster

Recently described on the blog Glengoyne, was quite nice 17 yo, not officially offered right now. A similar situation is with my today guest, that is not generally available outside the distillery. Thats where I bought this bottle in 2012. I really like this issues you can get only in distilleries. Glengoyne Teapot Dram is about to be a reminder of the daily rations for distillery workers, which they were once treated to make the work lighter... Today, it would not pass... We have here a...

    Oloroso Sherry Puncheon

GlenDronach Distilery is experiencing a renaissance and is famous for whisky aged in sherry casks. Something like Macallan a few decades ago. Today I have a single cask, distilled August 1, 2003, bottled in August 2016, so we have 13 years. Single malt matured in Oloroso Sherry Puncheon, cask No. 5480, a total of 687 bottles was created. Of course, natural color, unchillfiltered, cask strength 54.6% ABV. In fact, I could drink only single casks, thats a charm of natural presentation. This...

    Jura from GM

Jura is the only distillery located on the Isle of Jura, but it seems that Ive had already time to write about it (eg. A visit to the Isle of Jura, The Isle of Jura Boutique Barrels, Jura Origin 10 yo, Jura 16 yo Diurachs Own). Certainly distillery and island itself are worth a visit. Okay ... but what we have today? It is Jura Vintage 1997/2012 from Gordon & MacPhail, a series of Connoisseurs Choice, bottled with 46% ABV, no coloring or chillfiltration. K: white wine; N: malty,...
