Blended Malt od Douglas Laing […]

Its time to enter the New Year. For this occasion, I bought something that caught my attention above all with the look. Yes, I know it does not have the slightest impact on the tasting values, but you do not always have to take everything so seriously. This seriousness is more than enough for every day. Therefore, it started from the package - you can assess it by pictures below. Interesting, with a movable ring in the middle, allows you to play with characters. What else? We have here Douglas Laings Remarkable Regional Malts with a Twist 10 years old, bottled with 48% ABV, natural colour and no chill filtration. Edition limited to 5000 bottles (my is No. 2541), for the 70 years of Douglas Laing. This independent bottler decided to mix their 10-year-old blended malts - Epicurean from Lowlands, Timorous Beastie from the Highlands, Scallywag from Speyside, The Gauldrons from Campbeltowon, Rock Oyster from Islands and Big Peat from Islay. And thats how the final product was made. What is inside the bottle? C: light gold; N: from the beginning white wine, lets say that riesling, but its only the first, short moment, then I have peat elements, smoke and asphalt, at the same time a lot of ripe and even over-ripe fruits, I think here about apples, pears and even oranges, a lemon drop, then a bit of honey and vanilla emerges, later something mineral-metallic, generally quite interesting, versatile; T: from the very beginning very sweet, but also directly with the elements of peat, sparking on the tongue and warming, I can feel the power and have to get used to it, when we get it over the flavours will stand out and you will find that they harmonize well with the smell; the sweetness of honey and vanilla, fruits, apples, pears, oranges, in this case they are almost ripe, during all of that you can feel peat distillate, a touch of salt, with time I get a ginger and cloves; F: rather long, with the remains of ginger, cloves and shy orange. Score: 85....

    Peat and red wine.

During last Whisky Live Warsaw 2017, a friend of mine presented me a solid sample of Longrow Red 13 years old Malbec Cask Matured - great thanks. Longrow is a peated whisky produced by the Springbank Distillery, next to the Springbark (medium peated) and much milder Hazelburn. We are talking about the Campbeltown Region, which is the smallest whisky region in Scotland. In addition to these, there are also Glen Scotia Distillery and Glengyle Distillery producing Kilkerran. My guest for today...

    Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Springbank, Springbank, I have not been seen you here recently, lately, I do not remember when, here was Springbank 175 12 years old, on that occasion I also wrote a few words about the distillery itself. Springbank 11 years old Local Barley is an interesting experiment, the manufacturer wanted to limit to the local ingredients and traditional production methods. The Bere barley grew on the Kintyre Peninsula, a few kilometers from Campbeltow on the Aros Farm, then malted in the distillery....

    blind tasting

Recently I spent time very actively in the World of Whisky. I was in Scotland, even up in the Orkney Islands. After returning Id been home just for a while and took a little trip to Jastrzebia Gora for Whisky Festival in the Dom Whisky. Everywhere I had a great fun. Soon I will write more about these events, today impressions of tasting carried out in the St. Margaret’s Hope on South Ronalds Bay on the Orkney Islands. Seven people attended our trip to Scotland, the task of each of them...

this time adult representative of Campbeltown

Previously I tasted Campbeltown single malt from Glen Scotia. It was a 10 year old version, now its the turn for her sister, in the age of majority. I wonder how the additional eight years affected the tasting experience. Of course, not quite a literal and precise comparison test, as I do not know whether in the manufacturing process there were some significant changes. new expression from Campbeltown Region

[caption id=attachment_2027 align=alignnone width=801] Glen Scotia 10 years old[/caption] Glen Scotia is next, after Springbank, distillery from Campbeltown Region that I write about on my blog. The distillery was established in 1832 and for many years has remained in the shadow of its larger neighbor. Today, people from Glen Scotia would like to change this situation. Taken assumptions are correct, as the new issues are 46% ABV, bottled natural color and unchillfiltered. In addition,...

    Stirs the atavistic soul

Not so long time ago I had a family visit, as it often happens it that situations there was no opportunity not to go over the sea. I was able to carefully arrange the trip and offered Jastrzebia Gora. And if Jastrzebia Gora Dom Whisky had to be vistited. As planned as done. On-site I focused my attention on whisky from Scotch Malt Whisky Society 93.38, Stirs the atavistic soul. Single Malt on the occasion 175 anniversary of the distillery

Springbank Distillery is located in Campbeltown, Scotland. There were times when Campbeltown used to be called the capital of whisky with about 28 distilleries. Today there are only three left: Springbank, Glengyle and Glen Scotia. Springbank Distillery produces three single malts: Springbank, Hazelburn and Longrow. Distillery is independent of big companies and makes traditional, crafted whisky. Starting from own barley growing, through own malting floors, un-chillfiltration, natural colour...
