Single malt in a fair price.
Strathisla Distillery was founded in 1786 and is located in the town of Keith in Speyside. The company belongs to the Chivas Brothers, which in turn is owned by Pernod Ricard.
Strathisla 12 years old has recently appeared in my collection. It was purchased at the Budapest Airport in a fair price – 30 Euro per liter bottle. Unfortunately whisky is chillfiltered, colored with caramel and bottled at 40% ABV.
N: honey, raisins, for a while a touch of lime, plus some wood shavings, there is also freshly cut grass and hay, then again sweet with vanilla, with time I get some floral notes,
T: starts very gently, after a while I have fruits – apples, pears, vanilla, and then it begins to be slightly warming with a very shy grapefruit,
F: medium length, slightly spicy with hints of oak.
It seems that 40% ABV does not provide enough power here, probably chillfiltration does not help eighter. The smell is gentle and pleasant, but the taste lags behind it. Strathisla 12 years old is a good single malt for everyday sipping, but without exultations and great expectations. Good price, if we will get a promotion, such as one at Budapest Airport.
