Original Cask Strength Batch 007.
With a previous post we moved to the Laphroaig Distillery. It was a very nice visit, which I hope to repeat. While tasting impressions of Laphroaig 10 years old CS 005 I mentioned about excellent series of this single malt in cask strength edition. The distillery continues its production and in 2015 created the seventh batch. Recently I bought a bottle of Laphroaig 10 years old Cask Strength 007. It was bottled in January 2015 with 56.3% ABV. I was told in the distillery that colour is natural and it is unchillfiltered.
N: mmmmmm, this is it, very medical, I’ve got bandages, disinfectants, further hot asphalt, wooden railway sleepers, traces of burnt metal, smoke, peat, bonfire, ash, wet earth, coffee, fishing nets, smoked fish, salt, sea air, pepper, later more tones get to action, vanilla, toffee, followed by oranges and tangerines; a few drops of water has a positive effect on the flavour impressions;
T: healthy sparkles on the tongue, I feel the power, pepper, ginger, then it gets quite sweet, with traces of honey, vanilla, I can clearly feel peated barley, grilled seafood, salt, then orange, grapefruit, peach, a touch of lemon; a drop of water is useful, it soothes sparks and highlights other flavors;
F: long, sweet with grapefruit and peated barley.
Laphroaig in all its glory. Wealth of intense sensations. One dram allows for a long tasting. On the other hand it would be difficult to drink more of it at a time. This is a single malt that either you’ll like or wouldn’t like reach again. I belong to the first group.
