Lagavulin 1998/2014 Distillers Edition lgv. 4/503
Double Matured.
Double Matured.
When I roamed the Munich airport last time, in my arms, without the slightest hesitation, Lagavulin Distillers Edition fell in. Single malt distilled in 1998 and bottled in 2014, batch No. lgv. 4/503, 43% ABV. The tradition of Distillers Edition is Double Maturation. The second one takes place in a wine barrels, in the case of lgv. 4/503 this is Pedro Ximenez. Will my expectations be satisfied? Let’s see.
N: if on cue, the peat and smoke, in the way I like, and next to them bravely follows hard candy sweetness and candied fruit, mainly cherries, dried apricots, plums, a little honey, and as soon as also touches of the sea air, salt, which over time is more and more deeper, I also have something like tobacco and broth, and then also mint, asphalt, grilled seafood, then widely spreading orange zest and orange; you can smell it for a long time and there is always something to discover;
T: adequately to the smell, no doubt peat, then a little fire, again peat ash and salt, in the background fruits, cherries, plum and chocolate, also in the taste I sense mint and melissa, grilled oysters, oranges, yum …;
F: long with peat, traces of ash and oranges.
Score: 90.
Beautiful Lagavulin Distillers Edition. It has everything I like in the single malts. I already imagine how wonderful it would smell and taste as a the cask/batch strength. Ah … so …
See also Lagavulin 16 years old.
Scoring is based on my impressions and feelings, so its character is of course subjective.

I think this is the finest single malt whiskey I have ever drank! I usually drink the normal 16 year old,,,this double matured batch 4/503 will be savored by me ,,,one sip at a time.
Thank You,,,,Ron

In my opinion it’s very nice whisky. It was very hard for me to decide which is better Lagavulin 16 or this 4/503. They’re both worth sipping. Greetings, Lukasz.

Pozdrawiam.

I recently tried this over the Christmas holidays. The best I have ever tasted. It was fantastic – smokey peaty up front with the heather and honey at the finish — It was like angels dancing on my tongue. I am now ruined. WOW!

The perfect whisky does not exist. the Lagavulin dest. ed. comes close. In this you have it all: sherry roundness, sweetnes and tary peat. A travel in a glass.

Yes, it’s quite diverse and complex. Cheers!
