100% of rye.
Previously we talked about Kozuba & Sons – Prologue Single Malt Whisky – the first Polish single malt, today another recent product from this distillery – Mr. Rye Straight Rye Whisky. Straight Rye Whisky allows us to assume that we have a mash bill mash of at least 51% rye. The distillery has gone a step further and gave us 100% rye malt. Liquor was matured a minimum of three years in new barrels made of American white oak.
As an aside, applause for the design of the bottle. I like it.
N: sweet, vanilla, with honey, gently piercing the nostrils, then vanilla is drifting away slightly, but we have more pepper, spices, and further traces of singed wood, then I caught a glimpse of a peach and nectarine, orange peel, orange, fruit strengthened through the addition of a drop of water, maybe also delicately scented; after some time still fresh with lychee;
T: sparkles on the tongue and warms up, I feel the elements of youth, and further pretty sweet, honey, cereal, fruit compote with traces of rhubarb, orange, ginger and also some bitterness;
F: medium length, dry with bitterness and remnants of sparks.
It seems that I haven’t drank before a 100% Rye Whisky, so another surprise, in the case of Prologue as an interesting experiment we have 100% of aging in fresh, charred barrels. I am glad that the Polish distillery goes its own way and doesn’t deal with imitation.
Also in this case, I keep my fingers crossed for continued, successful development.
