Knockando Distillery is located in the village of the same name, near the river Spey. Founded in 1898, moreover, the first equipped with electricity. Currently it belongs to Diageo. On-site two spirit stills and two wash stills work.
Knockando 15 years old, was bottled with 43% ABV and distilled in 1995. According to the producer it was aged in sherry and refill Bourbon casks. The distillery proclaims that this single malt was “Richly Matured” I do not know what that means … maybe it is this combination of casks, or maybe it’s just a marketing gimmick.
N: beginning a bit winey, but only immediately after pouring into a glass, then things get sour and strongly citrus with accents of lime and essential lemon, a little orange too, then I have a peach and banana, vanilla, hard candy and at the end milk chocolate, cappuccino;
T: quite sweet, vanilla, honey, grapefruit, ginger and bitterness, some wood, between these, gentle sparking occurs on the tongue, I also have here cappucciono, quite pleasant;
F: even long with grapefruit, bitterness and traces of wood.
Whisky classic and worth a try, but I have not seen too many bottles on the shop shelves. I brought mine some time ago from France.
