Kilchoman Single Cask 2011/2016 PX Finish na Whisky & Friends M&P Festival
Young and ready.
Young and ready.
It has been a while since last Kilchoman on the blog, then it was a version prepared for Whisky Live Tokyo 2013. Today I also have a festival version, the Whisky & Friends M&P Festival. This time it is also a single cask, no 254/2011, my bottle is 45 out of 258, distilled on 27th May 2011 and bottled on 11th April 2016, natural color, unchillfiltered, cask strength 58% ABV, finish in Pedro Ximenez casks. There is nothing to hide I like single casks the most.
Let’s get straight to the point.
C: gold;
N: still in the bottle medical peat interspersed with prunes and cherries, after pouring into the glass first a bit alcoholic and with rhubarb, I have to give it a little bit of breath, after a while quite mineral with clear accents of wet earth, then peat gets back to the game with sea, salty air, moist seaweed, ash, dry hay, after a while in the background there are fruits – cherries, plums, I think it’s time for a few drops of water, which nicely rounded the smell, and above all enhanced sweetness – vanilla, honey, and red fruits, also some bandages and disinfectants have come along, it’s getting better with time;
T: first of all clear peat tones, even a bit of soil, dried barley, generally malty, interesting but high power is not particularly very annoying, yes ginger and tongue tweezers are present, but you can get used to it, only in the second phase I have accents of red fruits like cherries or plums, after adding water I got more fruits, sweets and even some lemon and grapefruit;
F: long with peat elements and delicate accents of fruits.
Score: 84.
Kilchoman Single Cask 2011/2016 PX Finish prepared for Whisky & Friends M&P Festival is a very good malt. It is worth to patiently devote a little time for tasting, also some water will give you a positive impact. Only then you will discover its true character.
Scoring is based on my impressions and feelings, so its character is of course subjective.

Super! Pozdrowienia!
