21 years + 4 months.
It’s time for next interesting Glenfiddich, today it is 21 years old Gran Reserva Rum Cask Finish. Previously we had here Snow Phoenix, Rich Oak, 19 years old Age of Discovery Red Wine Cask Finish and Excellence 26 years old. Therefore, many more to come 🙂 I also had the pleasure of visiting the distillery (Visit at William Grant & Sons). I would recommend these posts to all Glenfiddich lovers.
Glenfiddich 21 years old Gran Reserva Rum Cask Finish matured in American white oak for 21 years, and then for a further four months in rum barrels. My bottle is 43.2% ABV, although you can meet on the market 40% ABV version more often.
Let’s see what are the results.
N: a lot of spices, including a clear pepper, cinnamon and maybe a cardamom, then quite clear lemon, orange and their peels, ripe banana, vanilla, toffee, fudge basically, that is pretty sweet; very nice; the nose is multilayered and still is growing, all the time I feel spices and more pronounced cardamom, somewhere in the background there is a bit of tobacco, cocoa, raisins and scrap of wood, and then a touch figs and dates;
T: in flavor spices with pepper and cinnamon are also perceptible, but immediately I also have fruits: ripe orange, peach, melon and grapefruit, from time to time there are traces of oak, I still have the cinnamon, dark chocolate, honey and ripe plum;
F: long with orange, grapefruit, elements of oak and warming.
Very pleasant smell with clear spices, including cardamom in the first line. I think everyone should like the nose. The taste is similar to the smell, except that it is more demanding, there are more wooden elements. We get here a positive influence of bottling with 43.2% ABV, although 46% probably would be even better ;). Very good Glenfiddich.
