My favourite Bowmore series.
It seems that the Bowmore 10 years old Tempest series has adopted well and we have another edition. There are Batch 3 and V already on the blog and today I have in my glass Batch VI. Both 3 and VI I bought during visits to the distillery. Tempest arouses my smile from the very first glance. Natural color, unchillfiltered, cask strength 54.9% ABV, first fill bourbon barrels. What more could you want? This is obviously a rhetorical question. And … one more thing, of which today we should probably enjoy – the determination of the age – 10 years old. I wonder if we can keep all these parameters in future editions.
C: light gold;
N: still in the bottle on vanilla/fruits, with tropical fruits and citrus fruits, delicate brine and breath of the sea, after pouring into a glass I feel a slight irritation in the nose, next it is mostly sweet with vanilla and buttered biscuits, coconuts, in the background I have a peach, apricot, papaya and similar fruity accents, only somewhere in the background, you can feel the salty sea air, fishing nets, oysters, grilled shrimps and other seafood, distant campfire, smoke, there is also a touch of rosemary; a few drops of water gives positive results, highlights smell and enhances peat notes;
T: high power manifests with sparks on the tongue, I immediately feel peaty character of the whisky, I’ve got mint, melissa and rosemary, grilled seafood, grilled fish, accents of salt, as we let it to do a little breathing, we can find a good dose of fruits: apple, pear, lychee and peach, with a touch of orange or tangerine; here also several drops of water will not hurt and will give the effect of moderating alcohol, but it will highlight elements of peat and bitterness;
F: long with mint, traces of fruits, remnants of peat and a touch of salt.
Bowmore 10 years old Tempest has never disappointed me. Same with Batch VI – it is simply a type of whisky for me. It seems that Batch VI is the sweetest of those which I have tried, its peaty character is revealed only after adding a few drops of water.
