Springbank 175, 12 years old
Single Malt on the occasion 175 anniversary of the distillery.
Single Malt on the occasion 175 anniversary of the distillery.
Springbank Distillery is located in Campbeltown, Scotland. There were times when Campbeltown used to be called the capital of whisky with about 28 distilleries. Today there are only three left: Springbank, Glengyle and Glen Scotia.
Springbank Distillery produces three single malts: Springbank, Hazelburn and Longrow. Distillery is independent of big companies and makes traditional, crafted whisky. Starting from own barley growing, through own malting floors, un-chillfiltration, natural colour and bottling.
While my lat visit to Dom Whisky Jastrzebia Gora in Warsaw I tasted Springbank 175. This issue was launched on the occasion of 175 anniversary of the distillery – 1828-2003, matured 12 years, also in rum barrels, bottled with 46% ABV.
C: amber,
N: fresh, almond-raisin, rum, a little doughy, flavor for baking;
S: slightly spicy, lots of ripe tropical fruits, yeast cake with plenty of ripe apples and plums, then a little bitter;
F: quite long, sparkling on the tongue with a wooden tone of bitterness.
Score: 84
Scoring is based on my impressions and feelings, so its character is of course subjective.
