For Wealth Solutions, Poland.
Karuizawa is one of my favorite distillery. It has appeared on the blog many times before. I also mentioned about Karuizawa 1964 for Wealth Solutions, eg. at this link. I posted there a video about the launch of this single malt, I recommend it as an introduction to this post.
Karuizawa 1964 was distilled on 1st August 1964 and bottled on 24th December 2012 roku, with 57,7% ABV. Whisky matured 48 years in sherry cask no. 3603. Obviously we have: natural colour, cask strength and un-chillfiltered.
I have a sample of this Karuizawa for a longer time, but I hadn’t the right time to try one of the oldest single malts from Japan. As this year I did not go to the Limburg Whisky Fair, I decided to compensate it with tasting of Karuizawa 1964.
C: dark amber with a delicate red glare, chestnut;
N: starts sweet, liqueurish, with honey, the nose is very balanced, surprisingly there is no overwhelming impact of sherry, often found in whisky aged in casks after this wine; a whole bunch of fruits: cherries, plums, peaches, apricots, overripe oranges, then both milk and dark chocolate, further fruits again, this time candied; raisins, figs, dates, smoke, tobacco, earth, leather seats, mint; everything is beautifully put together and constantly intertwined, basically 57.7% ABV reinforces smells here, because alcohol is not noticeable;
T: mmmmm, beautiful, oily, intense, full and rich, Karuizawa immediately covers the entire mouth, accurately reproduces the smell, lots of fruits: cherries, plums, peaches and apricots, grapefruit; traces of ginger with bitterness, also here I have figs and dates, mint; traces of wood, cloves, lavender; it is difficult to identify and describe everything, so much is going on here;
F: very long-lasting, slightly dry, all the time-like flavor, with fruits, raisins, candied cherries.
Wonderful whisky. Nose and taste are rich, intense and multi-layered. Tasting experience constantly interwove and come back. The finish is maintained for a long time and is also developed. After adding a bit of water all is even more accentuated. I could can sit for hours with this whisky and every moment discover something new.
Karuizawa 1964 is the world championship, so far the best whisky I have tried.
