Another representative of the mysterious series […]

Not so long ago a courier knocked at my door handing a mysterious silver suitcase. I completely did not know what was going on, it was only after breaking into the interior that the Glenlivet Code and the equally mysterious black tasting glass were hidden. [caption id=attachment_7784 align=alignnone width=1920] The Glenlivet Code, 48% ABV[/caption] This is another, after Alpha and Cipher edition, on the occasion of which The Glenlivet encourages to independently name the smells and flavors, using their nomenclature, encourage to decode a single malt. This can also be done using the application found on the manufacturers website. Interesting fun for all those who want to test themselves in the whisky tasting. [caption id=attachment_7786 align=alignnone width=1920] The Glenlivet Code, 48% ABV[/caption] Traditionally, with these releases, we only know the level of alcohol, which is 48% ABV and thats it. The age, the barrels, and of course the aroma and taste sensations remain a mystery waiting to be discovered. [caption id=attachment_7788 align=alignnone width=1920] The Glenlivet Code, 48% ABV[/caption] So, lets discover. N: still in the bottle the smell reminds me of hydrated raisins, fresh bread, slightly yeasty, malty, then red fruit, apples, peach, vanilla; after pouring into a glass I first felt light alcohol vapors and ginger, the tones I felt straight from the bottle went somewhere in the background, now I have more toffee and caramel, but I also get ripe apples, candied orange, peach and dried apricot, immediately after that it gets very smooth, even creamy, later I discovered a cappuccino, nice; S: the taste seems more severe, I have ginger, grapefruit, orange skin and pineapple, there are clear traces of wood, also cinnamon, cardamom, I still have an apple and a peach, with time increasing dryness with a company of ginger; F: even long with ginger and remnants of wood, dry. Score: 80. The Glenlivet...

    Sherry casks and peat

I was going to to place this post in April, because the bottle of Bowmore 10 years old Dark & Intense, 40% ABV, I bought back then while a visit to Kyto, Japan. I came across it accidentally, in fact I accidentally came across a whisky store that was next to the sushi bar, which was the purpose of my visit to that part of the city. In the store, the choice was quite wide and decent, the prices did not seem excessive either. I think it was cheaper than in my country. After deeper...

    Merry Christmas

Previous Ardmore on the blog was official Traditional Cask NAS, 46% ABV, that I liked, by its way I also wrote a few words about this distillery. Before that I had here Ardmore 1992/2013 bottled for The Auld Alliance Singapore, just 218 bottles, at 51,3% ABV. Today I present you Ardmore from independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail. It was distilled in 1991 and bottled 2007, we have 16 years of maturation. The power is relatively low - 43% ABV. [caption id=attachment_7620...

    The gentle dram

The Glenlivet-Tomintoul Distillery is located in the hearty in whisky region of Speyside in the Ballindalloch. It was founded in 1964, primarily for the purposes of the rapidly growing market of blended whisky. Over time, single malts entered in the offer. Today I have in the glass the Tomintoul 12 years old in limited, as the producer indicates, version of Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish, 40% ABV. Previously, we had here Tomintoul - the gentle dram with a peaty tang, that is a peated NAS from this...

    Peat and red wine.

During last Whisky Live Warsaw 2017, a friend of mine presented me a solid sample of Longrow Red 13 years old Malbec Cask Matured - great thanks. Longrow is a peated whisky produced by the Springbank Distillery, next to the Springbark (medium peated) and much milder Hazelburn. We are talking about the Campbeltown Region, which is the smallest whisky region in Scotland. In addition to these, there are also Glen Scotia Distillery and Glengyle Distillery producing Kilkerran. My guest for today...

    Swedish Single Malt Whisky

I recently got two samples with news from Swedish Mackmyra, for which I heartily thank you. Earlier in the blog I described their first version of 10 years old. Lets see what our girlfriends are hiding inside. [caption id=attachment_7532 align=alignnone width=1920] Mackmyra Skordetid & Mackmyra Moment Korsbar[/caption] Mackmyra Skordetid, 46.1% ABV   N: sweet with clear wine accents, but also plenty of honey, caramel and toffee, after a while it all evaporates and...

    Thirsty malt

Cairdeas, or friendship, thats how Laphroaig calls his annual editions for Feis Ile. Probably not to be called otherwise, since the purchase of this bottle this year was a real torment. First, I was looking for Cask Strength, but this quickly ended, then Laphroaigs website decided to prove that youre not strong enough to face it. Finally after two days I was able to reach the stage of entering credit card details. And then, no confirmation, email, contact, nothing. After a few days the...

    NAS from Isle of Skye

From the Isle of Skye we had here Talisker 57 North, earlier classic 10 years old, also I posted a report from the visit to the distillery. For today, I prepared Talisker Skye, another NAS (no age statement), fortunately bottled at 45.8% ABV. N: still in the bottle, somewhat peat with smoked fish - this is a good prediction; you have to fill a glass - first alcoholic breeze, which clears quickly as breeze should, then a bit sweet - biscuits maybe, cooked apples, furthermore peat accents,...

    Independent Macallan

Macallan previously appeared on the blog in the official version of Fine Oak, after 18 years of maturing. Today I decided to reach for Macallan 21 years old from the independent bottler Douglas Laing, Old & Rare series, Platinum Selection. We have here a single cask - refill hogshead, 245 bottles (mines no 6), cask strength 52% ABV, natural colour. Distillation took place in March 1989, bottling in September 2010. The presentation is just perfect. [caption id=attachment_7160...

    Młody Sherry Monster

Recently described on the blog Glengoyne, was quite nice 17 yo, not officially offered right now. A similar situation is with my today guest, that is not generally available outside the distillery. Thats where I bought this bottle in 2012. I really like this issues you can get only in distilleries. Glengoyne Teapot Dram is about to be a reminder of the daily rations for distillery workers, which they were once treated to make the work lighter... Today, it would not pass... We have here a...
