Glenlivet 15 years old The French Oak Reserve

Long in my opinion the Glenlivet is a counterweight to the Glenfiddich, I have already mentioned that on the occasion of the description of the Glenlivet 18 years old, which I enjoyed. It should not be a surprise as both distilleries are very well known. I also had the opportunity to compare Glenlivet Founders Reserve to leaving, at least from some markets, Glenlivet 12 years old. Today, it is a time for a 15 years old version, 40% ABV. N: beginning evidently fruity: apples, pears, fruit compote, then there is a lot of sweetness with honey, caramel and vanilla, butter cookies, biscuits, again apples, this time baked, also a cake with apples and plums, then even wood elements, fresh wood scraps, freshly cut, wet, wood, the smell is very pleasant - all that Ive sniffed yet in a bottle; in a glass it is more fresh with a lot of young apples, even a drop of lemon, a little less volatile, and not so intense; T: at first slightly warming, then emerges sweetness with caramel, honey and vanilla, I still have apples, including green and pears, with a constant accompaniment of gentle sparks on the tongue, also a touch of wood, ginger and bitterness, from time to time you can recognize a touch of plum, tobacco, maybe also something slightly smoky? with a dark chocolate; F: medium long, fairly sweet with honey and caramel and a trace of bitterness. Score: 84. Single malt interestingly balanced, very speysidish, the taste a little should catch up the smell. And again, the 40% ABV... Standard blend

It is time for Ballantines Finest. This is a flagship product from Pernod Ricard and probably it doesnt need any introduction. We are dealing here with a standard blend, bottled at a minimum level of 40% ABV. They are using approx. 40 different whiskies, including grains and single malts, to compose it. In a direct challenge

Previously, I took a very good The Glenlivet 18 years old. Today I decided to compare the classic 12 year old with the new NAS - Founders Reserve, which reportedly intended to replace 12 years old version, at least in some markets. In Poland so far, both versions are available, well see how long. As you can see the overwhelming trend of the NAS (no age statement) also affected this distillery. It seems that it is inevitable if we analyze the data of Malt Scotch Whisky Association about the...

    12 year old blend

Several people have asked me to present some tasting impressions of blends. Usually I do not give them too much time, which is reflected in blog posts, but there are no obstacles to write about them from time to time. Generally blends are a bit different products than single malts. These first are mainly used for drinking in the company, at parties, on the rocks, with cola or in cocktails. In the case of single malts primarily I sink in their fragrances and flavors in quiet atmosphere....

    Orcadian Single Malt

Scapa Distillery lies on the Orkney Islands in Scotland, which makes it one of the most northerly located distillery. On the same island there is also Highland Park. [caption id=attachment_1489 align=alignnone width=801] Scapa 12 years old[/caption] Barley used in the production isnt peated, but its water flows through the peat bogs. Single malt production for many years is maintained at a low level. The distillery belongs to the Chivas Bros, which in turn is owned by Pernod...
