The Peated Malt Speyside Glenlivet […]

Old Ballantruan to single malt stworzony w destylarni Tomintoul w Speyside. Dziś rynek whisky jest trudny, konkurencja coraz większa, ale i popyt rośnie, dlatego gorzelnie dotąd produkujące owocowe i łagodne malty, sięgaj po nowych odbiorców. W taki sposób coraz więcej firm ze Speyside oferuje torfowe wydania. Tą metodą poszli w Tomintoul i stworzyli markę mającą okazać, iż „ciemniejszą”, torfową stronę. W moje ręce wpadła Old Ballantruan 10 years old, która została zabutelkowana z 50% ABV i unchillfiltered. Brzmi przyzwoicie. Punktacja: 84. Old Ballantruan 10 years old to porządny single malt. Przy badaniu zapachu przyda się nieco cierpliwości, aby przebić się przez torf i dotrzeć do słodkich i owocowych elementów. Smak dobrze koresponduje z zapachem. Natomiast 50% ABV wydaje się dopasowane idealnie. Smakuje mi. [caption id=attachment_8032 align=alignnone width=1920] Old...

    Young and ready

It has been a while since last Kilchoman on the blog, then it was a version prepared for Whisky Live Tokyo 2013. Today I also have a festival version, the Whisky & Friends M&P Festival. This time it is also a single cask, no 254/2011, my bottle is 45 out of 258, distilled on 27th May 2011 and bottled on 11th April 2016, natural color, unchillfiltered, cask strength 58% ABV, finish in Pedro Ximenez casks. There is nothing to hide I like single casks the most. Lets get straight to the...

    Thirsty malt

Cairdeas, or friendship, thats how Laphroaig calls his annual editions for Feis Ile. Probably not to be called otherwise, since the purchase of this bottle this year was a real torment. First, I was looking for Cask Strength, but this quickly ended, then Laphroaigs website decided to prove that youre not strong enough to face it. Finally after two days I was able to reach the stage of entering credit card details. And then, no confirmation, email, contact, nothing. After a few days the...

    Madeira Cask

I do not have to hide that I have a soft spot for Laphroaig. I can not pass by without noticing it. So when recently I received an email from the distillery with an information about the possibility to participate in the lottery to purchase a bottle of Cairdeas 2016 Madeira Cask, without much hesitation I signed up. After a few days it turned out that I acquired the right to buy this release. What times, you need to participate in the lottery to buy Scotch. What to do when demand exceeds...

    Peated NAS from Speyside

Single malts without specifying the age are produced probably by all of distilleries. Unless Im wrong? Are there any distilleries that do not yet have NAS? Hmm ... I do not think so. Lagavulin maybe… Sometime, somewhere I read that peated whiskies receive, at least statistically, higher scores than those where peat wasnt use in the production. At the same time, it seems that whiskies with specified age, usually, but there are of course some exceptions (eg. Laphroaig Quarter Cask), obtain...

    Announcement of autumn

Talisker has already hosted on the blog (eg. Talisker 10 years old), recently I posted a report from a visit to the distillery. Autumn is fast approaching, so today a version corresponding to this climate. Talisker 57 ° North. This edition is no age statement (NAS), but with a high content - 57% ABV. Ageing took place in bourbon casks. 57 ° North is originated form a latitude that the distillery is located. As it turned out during the tasting, whisky clouded after adding water, so it is...

    Laphroaig’s birtday

This year, Laphroaig celebrates its 200 birthday. On this occasion, the distillery introduced a 15-year old version of its nectar, bottled at 43% ABV. Reportedly, 15 yo intended to replace the 18 yo, do not know if this rumor is true, but it would be consistent with the current prevailing trend, although on the other hand, it is not so long ago as it was 18 to replace the 15, hmm ... We shall see. [caption id=attachment_4598 align=alignnone width=801] Laphroaig 15 years old 200...

    My year

In fact, I wanted to write that here we have the first Port Ellen on the blog, but not, after all, it has already appeared on the occasion of Whisky Live Paris 2013 and Whisky Legend tasting. I will not go into unnecessary arguments that it is legendary distillery from Islay, closed in 1983. One only needs to be pointed out that this vintage 1979, bottled at 46% ABV in 2013, by an independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail. Lot nr RO/12/08. [caption id=attachment_4585 align=alignnone...

    Double Matured

When I roamed the Munich airport last time, in my arms, without the slightest hesitation, Lagavulin Distillers Edition fell in. Single malt distilled in 1998 and bottled in 2014, batch No. lgv. 4/503, 43% ABV. The tradition of Distillers Edition is Double Maturation. The second one takes place in a wine barrels, in the case of lgv. 4/503 this is Pedro Ximenez. Will my expectations be satisfied? Lets see.
