Nikka Masterclass i Collector Room […]

During the Whisky Live Singapore 2014 I participated in one Masterclass, which I had to sign up with the purchase of the ticket. The organizers tried to make as many people would choose a Masterclass, hence the participation in several of them was not possible. You could choose from: Trade masterclass Rum appreciation debate Johnie Walker from farmer to global Scotch icon Nikka masterclass GlenDronach masterclass Pernod Ricard Boutique Malts Glenfiddich Solera Deconstruction Monkey Shoulder Cocktail Craft I would go gladly to all of them, but this was not possible. I was never on classes about Japanese whisky, so the choice fell on Nikka. Masterclass was hosted by Emiko Kaji Global Brand Ambassador. First, she told the story of Masataka Tatetsuru and history of whisky in Japan. Then we moved on to study composition and tasting of Taketsuru NAS, 17 years old and 21 years old. This year 12 year old version, which I described on the blog, has been replaced by the NAS (no age statement). Overall, Taketsuru is a very pleasant pure malt. It offered a set of older and more rare single malts. I tried a few of them. Below are my basic tasting experiences. I have also scored (more or less) tried whiskies and I am very curious how I will find them tasting next time in the other circumstances. What Nikka makes on Hokkaido

Yoichi is the northernmost distillery in Japan, located on the island of Hokkaido. It belongs to the Nikka Whisky. About Japan and its whisky I wrote here (only in Polish). The company has in Japan one more single malt distillery - Miyagikyo. It is worth mentioning that also Scottish Ben Nevis belongs to them. Nikka Lunch

Nikka - the second largest producer of whisky in Japan (the owner of Yoichi and Miyagikyo, but also Scotch Ben Nevis) offereded at Whisky Live Tokyo 2013 special lunch. First Stanislav Vadrna, whose I previously met at TIBS & Whisky Live Tokyo 2013, prepared Mizuwari (whisky mixed with plenty of water and ice) based on Nikka Blended Whisky. Single malt from independent bottler

Ian Macleod is an independant bottler. Simplifying the business is to purchase barrels of distillate from specific distillery, and then selecting the appropriate time due to the aging process, pouring into the bottles, and offering the consumer. Presentation of single malts by independent bottlers is commendable, because usually there is a natural color, un-chillfiltered and alcohol of 46% ABV.
