Tasting of Chichibu Port Pipe, Kornog, Ardmore 1992/2013
In The Auld Alliance Singapore […]
While my last visit in The Auld Alliance Singapore I let myself to do a little tasting. All the single malts were presented naturally: cask strength, natural colour. Below are my basic tasting impressions. I started with Ichiro’s Malt Chichibu Port Pipe, distilled in 2009, bottled in 2013, 54,5% ABV, bottle no. 1400 out of 4200. C: light amber; N: quite fresh, winey, red grapefruit, accents of just cut wood, quite sweet with hard candy; S: feels quite thick, tweaks on the tongue, grapefruit, a lot of orange peel and orange juice, delicate bitterness, it gets sweeter, a touch of liquor; F: medium length with grapefruit. Score: 83. Chichibu Port Pipe is a very young whisky, but in the natural presentation it is a pleasure to taste it. Water softens the whisky. Whisky bottled specially for The Auld Alliance Singapore in 2013. 58.7% ABV. It is worth mentioning that Kornog is produced in Glann Ar Mor Distillery, owned by Jean and Martine Donnay. It was their initiative to build the ninth distillery on Islay - Gartbreck. C: gold; N: after sniffing Chichibu this one is softer, more subtle, also sweet, a little mineral, a drop of water gives more sweet with some sour notes like citrone and lime, traces of smoke and peat; T: I feel a high level of alcohol with tingling on the tongue, sweet, a little ginger and bitterness, grapefruit, slightly metallic, meaty, peat is detectable; F: long sweet. Score: 84. Interesting whisky from France.
