Douglas Laing’s Remarkable Regional Malts with a Twist 10 years old, 48% ABV
Blended Malt od Douglas Laing […]
Its time to enter the New Year. For this occasion, I bought something that caught my attention above all with the look. Yes, I know it does not have the slightest impact on the tasting values, but you do not always have to take everything so seriously. This seriousness is more than enough for every day. Therefore, it started from the package - you can assess it by pictures below. Interesting, with a movable ring in the middle, allows you to play with characters. What else? We have here Douglas Laings Remarkable Regional Malts with a Twist 10 years old, bottled with 48% ABV, natural colour and no chill filtration. Edition limited to 5000 bottles (my is No. 2541), for the 70 years of Douglas Laing. This independent bottler decided to mix their 10-year-old blended malts - Epicurean from Lowlands, Timorous Beastie from the Highlands, Scallywag from Speyside, The Gauldrons from Campbeltowon, Rock Oyster from Islands and Big Peat from Islay. And thats how the final product was made. What is inside the bottle? C: light gold; N: from the beginning white wine, lets say that riesling, but its only the first, short moment, then I have peat elements, smoke and asphalt, at the same time a lot of ripe and even over-ripe fruits, I think here about apples, pears and even oranges, a lemon drop, then a bit of honey and vanilla emerges, later something mineral-metallic, generally quite interesting, versatile; T: from the very beginning very sweet, but also directly with the elements of peat, sparking on the tongue and warming, I can feel the power and have to get used to it, when we get it over the flavours will stand out and you will find that they harmonize well with the smell; the sweetness of honey and vanilla, fruits, apples, pears, oranges, in this case they are almost ripe, during all of that you can feel peat distillate, a touch of salt, with time I get a ginger and cloves; F: rather long, with the remains of ginger, cloves and shy orange. Score: 85....
