The premiere in Poland.
The first Whisky Festival in Poland, in the Dom Whisky in Jastrzebia Gora I inaugurated very nobly. The day before the festival (21.08.2014r.) I participated in the Polish premiere of the latest single malt from William Grant & Sons – Glenfiddich Excellence 26 years old.
A few days earlier I was in Dufftown in Glenfiddich distillery (my previous visit to the Glenfiddich is here), and there I came across a new product. I immediately wanted to taste it. A bottle was priced at 350 GBP, thus I temporarily helded back … But on occasion I did not have to wait long, just a few days.
The premiere of Glenfiddich Excellence 26 years old was very well prepared. In the role of presenter starred Ian Millar – Glenfiddich Global Ambassador. Besides, the event gathered more ambassadors, John Quinn, Global Ambassador of Tullamore Dew, Rob Allanson Grant’s Global Ambassador and Mateusz Zabiegaj Grant’s Ambassador, who also appeared as a translator. It seems that I’ve seen a few people from DIAGEO and other companies.
The presentation had interesting, educational nature. As the feature of Glenfiddich Excellence 26 years old is aging in barrels made only of white American oak – Qurecus Alba, we were presented a video showing the process of making them, from the selection the proper tree, cutting, drying, by folding and filling with Bourbon. In subsequent films we moved from the USA to Scotland to Glenfiddich distillery, where we saw the various stages of creating the single malt. The films were accompanied by commentary of Ian Millar.
I am glad that William Grant & Sons conducted in Poland the premiere of their latest whisky with the participation of Global Brand Ambassador, I think this reflects the growing role of our country in the World of Whisky.
My basic tasting impressions.
C: light gold,
N: quiet, gentle, I have fruits such as peach, pineapple, banana, lots of floral notes and vanilla,
T: fresh, with citrus and delicate sparking on the tongue, after a while there are also sweet tones, vanilla, toffee and cinnamon,
F: medium long with traces of sparking and sweet.
At first, on the nose and in the taste it seemed to be very shy, after adding a drop of water and a minute it revealed deeper layers, still being gentle. We have here 43% ABV. Distillation took place in 1988.
In the following days, during the Whisky Festival in Dom Whisky Jastrzebia Gora, Ian Millar led Masterclasses, then you could also try Glenfiddich Excellence 26 years old.
As I mentioned earlier, Glenfiddich Excellence in the distillery can be purchased for 350 GBP (approx. 1,800 zł). In Poland, it is available for approx. 2100 – 2300 zł – a little too much in relation to Scotland.
Below videos about the history of the wood and the formation of barrels (videos provided by the organizer).
