job only half done.
As it is well known in the last year, Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Diamond Jubilee of reign (1952-2012). Also Laphroaig decided to commemorate this event, launching 18 years old Diamond Jubilee. I decided to buy the bottle.
But … there is no reason for excitement.
From the outside, everything is beautiful, as I am referring to the tube. Silver or as you prefer a diamond with a clear indication of the Diamond Jubilee occasion 1952-2012 and an indication that we are dealing with one of 3000. Nice.
The disappointment comes after getting inside, that contains the … standard bottle of Laphroaig 18 years old. Although, in principle, there is one difference. In addition to the barcode appropriate for the 18 year old whisky, they glued the right one for the anniversary edition.
End of the differences.
I have never concealed that Laphroaig is one of my favorite distillieries. However, I am disappointed with the presentation of Diamond Jubilee. When the distillery is releasing a special edition whisky, especially on the occasion of 60 years of Queen Elizabeth II reign, they should not limit only to the tube. Presentation of the package must be transferred also to the bottle. I do not mean that the whisky itself should be different from the standard version of the 18 year old, but the label should look like the tube. But here, the job was done only in half. Laphroaig spoiled the whole feeling of this anniversary issue. There was little to do to have the job done well.
On the positive side, you can take that the Laphroaig 18 years old Diamond Jubilee is sold at a price comparable to the standard edition.
