"Diplomatic mission" was established at the Whisky Bar 88 in Poznan.
On June 6, 2013, there was the official opening of Ardbeg Embassy in Poland. As a place of “Diplomatic mission” Whisky Bar 88 in Poznan, located at City Park, was established. The history of City Park buildings is dating back to the nineteenth century, when it served military purposes. It also stationed XV Cavalry Regiment of Poznan. Today the whole area is restored according to conservator’s recommendations and is housing 5 star hotel, shops, apartments, galleries, spa, fitness center, swimming pool. There is also Whisky Bar 88.
At the ceremony members of the Ardbeg Committee were invited (you can subscribe to the Committee at www.ardbeg.com), as well as all the other enthusiasts of smoke and peat from Islay of Islay. The event was characterized in a climate of May’s festivals on Islay – Islay Feis Ile. Comfortable interior of Whisky Bar 88 was combined with open space terrace where the stage was set, there were also sheaves of hay for seating with a bar where Ardbeg 10 years old and drinks created on its basis were served. There were also games and competitions with prizes of Ardbeg artifacts.
In addition to the opening of the Ardbeg Embassy, a key highlight of the evening was the presentation of a limited edition whisky Ardbog. Very interesting expression, created by vatting of 10-year distillates aged in Bourbon casks and Sherry Manzanilla. In a separate post I will write about Ardbog and give some tasting notes.
The Shortie – Ardbeg dog also attended the evening, as it is commonly said at the Ardbeg Distillery the peatiest nose on Islay, just after Ardbeg.
After the official program the rest of the evening you could spend at the Whisky Bar 88 for further tastings, whisky discussions, and more.
Certainly the opening of the Ardbeg Embassy in Poland is very positive, such events cause importance increase of our country in the World of Whisky. They also contribute to raising knowledge of the single malt whisky in Poland.
